About the Artist
|
I was born into the transient lifestyle of a military family and learned the art of adaptation at an early age.
In High School I attended a boys Military Academy; one of thee girls in my class. All of us learned the art of survival as it applied to "Adolescent Angst", enjoying the ups and downs inherent in those teenage years. Following High School, I left my little "one traffic light" small town for the Big City of St. Louis where I attended and graduated from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing, firmly entrenched in the art of medicine as it applied to releaving pain and suffering of people when they are the rmost vulnerable. |
The next 30 years were filled with family adventure - it was all about the people that give life meaning and purpose. And then . . .
It was time to explore another side of art. You see, art is everywhere if you take the time to recognize it - and it is the one common thread uniting all of the diverse phases of life.
In 2001, I stumbled into Glass Beadmaking (Lampwork beads) at Craft Alliance in St. Louis. My intention was to take a jewelry design and assembly class. At least that was how I originally interpreted the class description. However, I stepped into a world of torches, glass, heat and chemistry. And I loved it.
Indeed, I love the power of the torch, the mysterious and surprising interactions that occur with metals and glass.
About the Art
Using a variety of lampworking techniques, I blend colored glasses and precious metals and shape the molten glass into unique beads.
Along the way, I faced another challenge: How to integrate my beads into totally unique, exciting pieces of wearable art? To that end, I started incorporating wire sculpture and metalsmithing along with my lampwork beads. |
|
Now, enjoying the manipulation of bronze, copper and silver, I have come to also love the art of metalsmithing.
